{"id":1767,"date":"2012-03-14T08:35:29","date_gmt":"2012-03-14T12:35:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.beautyterm.com\/?p=1767"},"modified":"2020-01-15T20:20:34","modified_gmt":"2020-01-16T01:20:34","slug":"the-invisible-glamour-superstar-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/beautyterm.com\/fr\/the-invisible-glamour-superstar-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The Invisible Glamour Superstar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am always amused when people express star-struck admiration for what I do.\u00a0 Translating cosmetic copy must sound a lot more appealing, especially to women, than it really is.\u00a0 To non-translators, the concept has to play into their fantasies of the glamorous world of high fashions, fast cars, luxury goods, top models on glossy magazine covers and overpriced holidays. \u00a0Exclamations the likes of \u201cHow fun!\u00a0 Do you get a lot samples?\u201dand \u201cYou must be so excited to see your translations in print\u201d are not uncommon.<\/p>\n<p>In reality, however, most of the marketing documents I receive for translation are \u201cworks in progress\u201d that undergo numerous revisions, even after they have been translated.\u00a0 According to the Canadian Institute of Marketing (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cinstmarketing.ca\/\">http:\/\/www.cinstmarketing.ca<\/a>) \u201cMarketers are creative people, who push the edge of societal, industry and government acceptance of norms.\u201d\u00a0 More often than not, their<strong> methods are unconventional<\/strong> with <strong>tight deadlines <\/strong>part of the overall working environment.\u00a0 This spills into the demands placed on the translator: deadlines are even tighter and <strong>flexibility <\/strong>a must.<\/p>\n<p>So the translations I churn out invariably undergo changes, possibly passing through the hands of first the translation agency acting as the middleman and then the end client\u2019s editors.\u00a0 The editing may be done either by the copy writers themselves, their editors in charge of proofreading, or other employees.\u00a0 The ultimate target recipients working in the company\u2019s subsidiary are also often consulted for input.\u00a0 There may or may not be an established communication pipeline between all those involved and the translator.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>act of translation is a creative process<\/strong>;
